Adopt A Dog
With

Saints Sled Dog Rescue

Most of our rescue dogs come from domestic homes in the UK and bought into SSDR foster care where they are assessed for a minimum of 2 weeks. This means that we are able to assess our dogs in MOST situations so we can learn their traits and the type of homes they need for the future.

ALL our dogs are vaccinated, neutered, micro-chipped and flea/worm treated before heading to their forever homes (age applicable).

Although we assess the dogs in our care we cannot offer a 100% guarantee how they will react in new situations. We try our very best to make sure ALL our families have the information they need to start on the right foot but we do say EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED and start from the basics when introducing a new dog into your home.

BEFORE, making a decision to adopt a sled dog please research as much as you can about both the Siberian Husky and Alaskan Malamute breeds, their traits and their history. They are from a ancient working breed line which their behavioural traits can still been seen today.

SSDR have a very thorough process for adoption including home checks and interviews to ensure not only we can match the PAWFECT dog to your home but so we can get to know you and your family too.

The Adoption Process

STEP 1. ADOPTION APPLICATION

Please complete our adoption from & fill in as much information as you can, if you have any issues with submission please contact the SSDR team on info@saintssleddogrescue.co.uk

STEP 2. HOME CHECK

The team will review your adoption application & get in contact with the next steps to finding you your sled dog. Someone will be in contact to arrange a home check and interview with you in person, please bear in mind this could take a few weeks to arrange depending on your location.

If you have a dog of interest in mind please let them know at this stage but be aware that there may be other applicants with interest and we will match to whichever home is more suited to that particular dog. Don't get too disheartened though, there is ALWAYS the perfect dog for your home, even if there is a little wait.

STEP 4. MEET AND GREET

Most of our foster dogs are in peoples home dotted in various locations around the UK. We do advise that you plan to meet a dog before taking them home, especially if you are already a dog owner. We cannot guarantee that there will be a suitable dog in your area so please be prepared to travel. Transportation can be arranged by volunteers but fuel charges may apply, speak to a member of staff for more details.

STEP 5. CONTRACTS & PAYMENT

Before taking your dog home you must read and sign the SSDR Adoption Contract for your chosen dog. All contracts must be sign and adoption fees paid 24 hours BEFORE adoption. Contracts are sent and signed via email, take a look out our conditions to adopting a SSDR dog. The adoption fee for under 12 months old £400 over 12 months old £350. This fee means that your dogs are fully vaccinated, neutered (age dependant), medically cleared by a veterinarian, worm and flea treated.
